Our vision is to provide a happy, caring and creative environment where our children have the opportunity to thrive through engaging and motivating experiences. Every child is seen as an individual who we want to nurture to reach their potential.

Able, gifted and talented (AG&T) children will, where possible, be given the opportunity to develop their specific skills and talents. At Hermitage School identifying able, gifted and talented pupils is a process which the whole staff participate in, as well as parents, carers and the children themselves.

According to the DFE, ‘Gifted and Talented is the term applied to young people who are achieving, or who have the potential to achieve, at a level significantly beyond the rest of their peer group. This refers to the upper end of the ability range in most classes/cohorts. It is important to recognise that Gifted and Talented students are individuals, with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. A student may be very able in some areas, but may appear on the Special Educational Needs (SEN) register in recognition of behavioural, social, physical/sensory or specific learning difficulties.’

Able children who achieve, or have the ability to achieve, above average in one or more academic areas. This also includes children who are leaders or role models and who display outstanding leadership and/or social skills.

Gifted children have an innate ability and intuitive understanding, who present a natural, outstanding aptitude or competence for exceptional performance.

Talented children excel in one or more specific field, this can be a hobby outside of school:

• Creative and Performing Arts – Drama, Music.
• Physical Education or extra-curricular activities – e.g. judo, tennis, chess, fencing.
